Erectile Dysfunction
Assessment and management of erectile dysfunction.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the persistent or recurrent difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. ED can occur for many reasons and may involve physical, psychological or a combination of factors. Potential contributors can include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, certain medications, hormonal abnormalities, lifestyle factors, stress and other health conditions. At West-Med, erectile dysfunction is approached as a medical concern rather than simply a sexual performance issue. Your doctor will assess your symptoms, general health and relevant risk factors to help identify possible contributing causes. Depending on your individual circumstances, further examination, blood tests or other investigations may be recommended before appropriate management options are discussed.
Understanding what's causing your ED
Effective management of erectile dysfunction starts with identifying possible contributing factors. Your West-Med doctor will discuss when your symptoms began, your general and sexual health, existing medical conditions, medication and relevant lifestyle factors. Your cardiovascular, metabolic and hormonal health may also be considered where clinically appropriate. Based on your assessment, management may involve addressing an underlying health condition, lifestyle changes, reviewing medication or considering appropriate ED treatment. Further investigation or referral may be recommended where necessary. Medication is not automatically appropriate for every patient and should only be considered following an appropriate medical assessment.
Discreet, evidence-based ED care
Erectile dysfunction is a medical concern that deserves appropriate assessment, particularly because it can sometimes occur alongside other health conditions. West-Med provides confidential, doctor-led assessment to investigate potential contributing factors before recommending a management approach. Our focus extends beyond simply treating the symptom. Where appropriate, your doctor will consider your broader health and discuss suitable treatment options, further investigations or referral based on your individual clinical circumstances.

WhatsApp UsWhat causes erectile dysfunction?
ED can have several potential causes, including cardiovascular and metabolic conditions, diabetes, certain medications, hormonal factors, psychological factors and lifestyle-related factors. More than one factor may be involved.
Is erectile dysfunction a normal part of ageing?
Changes in sexual function can occur with age, but persistent erectile difficulties should not automatically be assumed to be a normal consequence of getting older. A medical assessment can help identify possible contributing factors.
Can low testosterone cause erectile dysfunction?
Testosterone deficiency may contribute to sexual symptoms in some men, particularly reduced libido, but it is only one possible factor. Testosterone testing or treatment is not appropriate for every patient with ED.
Are medications available for erectile dysfunction?
There are prescription medications used in the management of erectile dysfunction, but they are not appropriate for everyone. Your doctor will consider your health, other medication and potential contraindications before determining whether a particular treatment may be suitable.
Should I see a doctor about erectile dysfunction?
If erectile difficulties are persistent, recurrent or concerning you, it is reasonable to discuss them with a doctor. Assessment may also help identify underlying health factors that require attention.
